A furniture design concept, inspired by sarkanda craftsmen. A design outcome that brings sarkanda furniture to the world of luxury.
Brief
To create a piece of luxury domestic furniture with sarkanda grass, utilizing its physical and visual properties. The new design also aims to give more exposure and business opportunities to the traditional craftsmen, learning and taking inspiration from traditional techniques.

Outcome
The outcome of the research process was a new technique of constructing sarkanda furniture that is much stronger and sturdier. The new technique allows us to create and experiment with different forms and design various types of furniture like chairs, table stools, and much more.
The lounge chair is shown below that would be put into the luxury furniture market, promoting and appreciating sarkanda crafts. It will also assist the few surviving sarkanda craftspeople in thriving and increasing their earning potential.
Making
The making process is very easy. A metal frame is first made, which acts as a supporting structure for the furniture. Sarkanda pieces are then attached to the metal frame using tying with a piece of nylon rope for securing the structure. Finally, a lining of woven fibers sarkanda weaving technique is lined on the inside.
The outcome is very minimal and modern-looking furniture that could be placed indoors and outdoors. The inner lining of the furniture has limitless possibilities for experimentation in terms of the material and pattern.
